Arsenal vs Birmingham City Carling Cup Final 2011 - Live Streaming Links

Arsenal 2-1 Barcelona Free Highlights and Goals

Arsenal took on the Spanish champions, perhaps the best team in the world, currently, at the Emirates on Wednesday night, in a Champions League Round of 16 First Leg match. The Catalans dominated much of the first half, and were rewarded in the 26' minute, when David Villa was put through for an easy one on one with Wojciech Szczesny.

The Arsenal response was positive, as they started to get more of possession as the match progressed, and were the better side in the second half. However, the Gunners could not manage to breakthrough the Barcelona defence for most of it. The constant pressure finally paid off in the 77' minute, when Gael Clichy played a ball on the left to Robin van Persie, and the Dutchman fnished from a near impossible angle.

Arsenal pushed on after the goal, and got the goal that completed the turnaround through an unlikely source - Andrei Arshavin. The Russian has not been in good form in the past few weeks, but his sublime finish from a Samir Nasri cross from the edge of the box told a different story.

It was a stunning, unexpected comeback from the home side, who were clear underdogs before the match. After the first goal, many expected Barcelona to get another goal and cruise to victory, yet the Arsenal defence did not crumble under the pressure.

It was a good performance overall by the Arsenal players, however there were a selected few that were especially brilliant. Laurent Koscielny was a rock in the heart of the Arsenal defence, while Jack Wilshere did very well in the heart of midfield. Samir Nasri provided attacking options throughout the game, while Robin van Persie also looked very dangerous at times. Wojciech Szczesny, the 20-year old Polish keeper put in a marvellous performance, considering it was his first European game, that too against the world famous Catalans.

Arsenal 2-1 Huddersfield Town Highlights

Arsenal struggles to beat Huddersfield Town at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, but eventually made it through to the 5th Round, courtesy Nicklas Bendtner and a late Cesc Fabregas penalty.

Arsenal took the lead through Bendtner early on, via a deflected shot, but Huddersfield didn't let go, and got the equaliser in the 66th minute. It looked as though there was another replay on the cards for Arsenal, till the 86th minute, when Bendtner was brought down in the box. Fabregas stepped up, and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.

Arsenal now face Leyton Orient in the next round, another 'easy' opponent, but they might prove to be a tough nut to crack, like Huddersfield and Leeds.

Samir Nasri suffered a hamstring injury during the match, and will be out for about 3 weeks, and might just miss the crucial Champions League tie against Barcelona.

Arsenal 3-0 Ipswich Highlights

On Tuesday night, Arsenal and Ipswich battled it out in the Second Leg of the Carling Cup Semi-Final, for a place in the final, at the Emirates Stadium. Ipswich of course held a 1-0 lead from the first leg, but an impressive second half performance by the Gunners meant that Arsenal will go to Wembley next month, to face Birmingham City in the final.

After 61 minutes, Nicklas Bendtner finally broke the deadlock for the home side, and a headed goal by Laurent Koscielny followed just 3 minutes later. 13 minutes from time, the captain, Cesc Fabregas secured not only a fabulous win on the night, but also a spot at the Carling Cup Final at Wembley on February 27.

I'm Back! (Version 3.0)

Its been 5 months since I last wrote here, and a lot has happened in this period.

Arsenal, for the first time in a long, long time, in January, is still in with a good chance in all 4 competitions.

The English Premier League - We are in with a decent chance, we are just a few points behind Manchester United, with plenty of games yet to be played. The advantage that we hold over Chelsea, United, ~~Liverpool~~ and other possible title contenders, is that in the remaining half of the season, we play all the big teams at home. This could be a deciding factor, one which tilts the balance in Arsenal's favour.

The FA Cup - Despite a stumble against Leeds at Emirates Stadium a few weeks back, we managed to salvage a draw, courtesy Fabregas in the last minute, and forced a replay. Last week, the Gunners travelled to Leeds, and won by a comfortable 3-1 margin. We now face Huddersfield, a relatively easy opponent, in the 4th Round. We are clear favorites for that tie, which will be held at the Emirates.

UEFA Champions League - The first 3 matches in the group stage went without any glitches from Arsenals side, yet the next two games showcased a completely different Arsenal side. We had to depend on the last matchday win against Partizan, and we qualified as Runners Up in the Group. We now face FC Barcelona in the knockout stages, so progressing is err...unlikely? Though Theirry Henry, a former Gunner and Catalan, has said that if any team can beat Barcelona, it is Arsenal.

Carling Cup - This is the competition in which a trophy is almost a certainty. After defeating North London neighbours Tottenham, Newcastle, and Wigan, the Gunners found themselves in the semi finals, as favorites. The other 3 sides - Ipswich Town, West Ham, and Birmingham City.
It looked all too easy, until a couple of weeks back, as we succumbed to a lowly rated Ipswich Town away from home, with a 1-0 margin. Tonight in the second leg, need to overcome the one goal deficit at the Emirates, and book a place in the final at Wembley.

It is perhaps the strongest Arsenal squad in many years, and it is certainly a golden opportunity to win our first major trophy (Emirates Cup does not count!) in 6 years, and remove the tag of 'trophyless' from our profile.

Introducing Arsenalians Telestrator

Arsenalians Telestrator, you might have heard of a telestrator, its a touch screen device mainly used to explain tactics in sports, you might have seen it on TV, the pundits explain the formations and movements. Now, Arsenalians has its own telestrator. It is not a real telestrator that is being used, it is actually a PowerPoint Presentation, the first edition features the Blackburn game next weekend. I have tried to explain the way we would attack, and the movements and runs that playyers would make, to help you understand the tactics better, and so that you get to know the way a manager plans out a game. Sebastien Squillaci Almost There

A report on Sevilla FC's official website, http://www.sevillafc.es/, has revealed the following:

Defender Sebastien Squillaci is travelling to London tonight in order to pass a medical with Arsenal on Monday, the club that he will be transfered to, after an agreement was reached between the two clubs pending the results of the medical.

Squillaci was, however, omitted from last week's Champions League qualifier against Braga at his own request in order to avoid being rendered ineligible for other clubs competing in the competition.

The reported fee is of 6.5 million euros, and it is likely that he will officially become a Gunner within the next two days or so. He could be a useful addition to the squad, the French connection between him and Wenger may work to our advantage. Other French players that have been in our squad, Henry, Anelka, Sagna, Diaby, Gallas, Clichy, Pires, Petit, Nasri, and now Squillaci. Am I forgetting someone?

Welcome Clock End!

Today, before the Blackpool game, the Emirates stands were officially renamed to the ones that used to be at Highbury, i.e. Clock End, North Bank, West Stand, East Stand. The Clock End would be incomplete without the famous clock, which was present at Highbury for more than 70 years! Today a new clock was unvieled, it is not the original, but it is by the same manufacturers.

History of the Clock:

The idea of a clock telling supporters how much time is left in the match, was the great Herbert Chapman's. In the late 1920's, he suggested that a clock should be put at the stadium, that would count down from 45 minutes, so that the fans would know how much time is left for the match to end. It was first installed at the North Bank in 1928, but then the FA disapproved it, as it ''undermined the match officials'', and Arsenal were forced to remove it, and put a simple clock instead of it. In 1935, it was shifted to the South Stand of the stadium, and since then it has been known as the Clock End.

The original Clock was 2.6 metres in diameter, and a replica stands in the Diamond Club at the Emirates, which measures 1.3 metres. It was taken down from Highbury in 2006, using a 25 tonne crane, it took 4 people 9 hours to do that!

It now stands at the top of the Clock End, and reminds us of all of the great memories at Higbury.

I was unable to post last weekend, the opening weekend of the new season. Of course, a new look Arsenal side, with new signings Laurent Koscielny, and Marouane Chamakh, and without World Cup winner Cesc Fabregas, took on the (not so) mighty Liverpool at Anfield. Many would have tipped Andrey Arshavin to score, he, according to me had his worst game this year.

It started off with Arsenal dominating in midfield. Jack wilshere and Theo Walcott impressed early on, but no real chances were created on either side in the first 45 minutes. At the end of the first half, Joe Cole, making his Premier League debut with the Reds, was shown a red, for a badly timed tackle on Koscielny.

It was expected that Arsenal would dominate, since they had an extra man, that too in midfield, but nothing of that sort happened. Just after the break, a through ball to David Ngog was finished cleanly from an acute angle by him, a powerful, well placed shot, but Almunia really should have got there.

After that, Liverpool sat back, and let Arsenal attack for most of the second half. It was ultimately the constant pressure that paid off, at 89 minutes, 47 seconds, a Tomas Rosicky cross found Chamakh who charged accross the face of the goal. He did not get his first Premier League goal though, his header bounced of the woodwork at the near post, and Pepe Reina, who had gone up front to unsuccessfully claim the cross, tried to recover. However, he carelessly let the ball slip out of his hands, and roll into the net. It was not over yet, Laurent Koscielny, on his debut for Arsenal got two late yellows, and was sent off right at the death. 1-1 was the scoreline, it was a deserved point for either side.

From last week till now, one transfer concerning Arsenal has taken place. William Gallas, who had been released during the summer (due to high wage demands), was bought by Tottenham, in a reversal of the Sol Campbell incident.

Today, Arsenal went back to the way they started last season. 6 goals, a solid attack and defence, a perfect team, a perfect match. They faced newly promoted Blackpool, the Tangerines today. Today was also the first match at the Emirates this season, and as part of 'Arsenalisation' of the Emirates, four new names for the stands were unveiled. The North Bank (on the left of the TV screen), The West Stand (where the cameras are located), The East Stand (opposite the cameras), and the Clock End (to the right of the screens). Of course, Clock End would not be complete without the Clock itself (Which had stood at Highbury for years, and was first thought of by the great Herbert Chapman). The Clock at the Emirates is not the original one, which was in use in Highbury, but it is an exact replica, made by the same people who made the original.

Getting back to on field action, Fabregas came back to the squad, as did Song and Djourou. Koscielny missed through suspension, but it was Song who started in the heart of the defence with Vermaelen. Theo Walcott was the unlikely hero today, it seems as if the expulsion from England WC squad has had positive effects on him. He made several runs, both with and without the ball, and gave quite a few clever balls to the others. More importantly, he took his chances, and got a deserved hattrick.

Arshavin scored from the spot, Diaby also got his name on the scoresheet. Marouane Chamakh, the towering Moroccan, go his first Premier League goal for the Gunners, as he headed home from a Robin van Persie corner late on.

Overall, it was a very impressive performance. A 6-0 win over a side who beat Wigan 4-0 last week. We looked tight at the back, despite playing Song at CB. In midfield, we dominated, that too without the likes of Fabregas (for a majority of the match) and Denilson. In attack, Walcott was by far the star of the show. He made some excellent runs, not only on the wings, but also through the middle. The best part is that Arshavin, Chamakh, Van Persie and Walcott (to some extent) are all interchangeble. They can play on either wing, as well as in the centre, something like the system adapted by Manchester United, Total Football, the famous invention of the Dutch.

Its looking pretty good so far, 4 points from 2 games, we are second, behind a rampant Chelsea, who have picked up where they left from. 6-0 winners against West Brom a week ago, and they repeated the same scoreline against Wigan (the match ended a few minutes ago).

I'm Back! (Version 2.0)

Okay, so my last post was in January, 7 months ago. I wrote about the fact that Arsenal were 4 points behind leaders, Chelsea, and played a ''relegation threatened'' Bolton. Of course, Bolton went on to finish 14th, thats a different story!

The top 3 remained as they were, double winners Chelsea, followed by Manchester United, and Arsenal. Tottenham finished in fourth to take the final UCL spot, followed by Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Liverpool (who had their most disappointing season in a long time).

Altogether, an impressive season for the Gunners, considering they were being tipped to be thrown out of the Top 4 at the beginning of the season, exactly a year ago. Despite several long term injuries to Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas, Johan Djourou, and Aaron Ramsey, they finished in the top 3, 11 points behind the leaders, Chelsea.

The season was dominated by two English cities - London, and Manchester.

London, represented by Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Fulham, and West Ham, had 3 out of the top 4 teams, FA Cup winners, and Europa League finalists.

Manchester, represented by United and City, had a fairly good season. United in second, and City in fifth, they both look like title contenders in the upcoming season.

From this week onward, I'll be back posting previews, highlights, polls, live streaming links for all of the first team matches. Enjoy!

I'm Back

I'm writing a post here, after a long, long time. The last thing I posted, were the highlights of the 6-2 win against Blackburn. Lots has happened since then, we won a majority of our games, and lost to Chelsea 3-0 at the Emirates. While all this happened in the League, the Gunners also qualified for the knockout stages of UEFA Champions League, and were drawn against Porto. In the Carling Cup, the younger generation of players surprised a clueless Liverpool side at home, only to be beaten by Manchester City's stars in the next round.

Now, Arsene Wenger's boys are 2 points behind Manchester United, and 4 points behind fellow Londoners Chelsea, and sit in second place with a game in hand (which is against Bolton next week). Considering that they beat the relegation threatened Bolton Wanderers, the three teams will be separated by just 2 points.

Our next match is a London derby against West Ham United in the FA Cup on Sunday. A preview will follow.

Moreover, Arsenal has been undefeated in the last 6 Premier League matches against Blackburn. All this just proves that the Gunners are the better side, and are clear favorites to win this one.

Wenger Completes 13 Years, Creates History

'In Arsene, We Trust'

Arsene Wenger has completed 13 years as the manager of Arsenal, and with that, he has also surpassed George Allison's record of the longest serving manager of the club. 1st of October, 1996 was Wenger's first day in charge of the Gunners, and 13 years later he has overtaken George Allison's record by completng 4749 days in charge.

George Allison was the man who took over as manager of Arsenal in 1934, after the death of Herbert Chapman. He was once the director of the club, and lived upto everyone's expectations. He guided Arsenal to the 1934-35 League title, and the FA Cup in 1936. Then, in 1937-38, he won another League title with them, before the World War II started. His last match was a win over Everton, which was the last game of the 1946-47 season. I don't know wether he planned this or something, but he left the job after completing exactly 13 calendar years (with 3 leap years in between, so (365 X 10) + (366 X 3) = 4748 days).

Wenger, or 'The Professor' as he is also known as, first stood on the sideline watching the Gunners play against Blackburn Rovers. Co-incidentally, Wenger will next stand on the sideline watching his carefully nurtured side against Blackburn Rovers!

Arsenal 2-0 Olympiacos Highlights

Arsenal took on Greek champions Olympiakos in a Group H Champions League encounter at the Emirates, and came out as comfortable winners. Arsenal dominated both the halves, and put constant pressure on the Olympiacos defence. Eventually, a brilliant passing movement in the 78th minute yielded a goal, as Robin van Persie finished off a pass from Eduardo from within the 6 yard box. Andrey Arshavin hammered the final nail into the coffin, as he finished off a grounded cross from Cesc Fabregas from the right side. Arshavin faced the ball, with the goal on his left side, and as the ball approached he slid back his right foot, and slyly dragged the ball from behind his left leg in to the goal. Overview: I don't know much about Olympiacos, so I really cannot say anything about them. All I know is that they are the best team in Greece at the moment, but the level of Greek football is not as high as English. Arsenal have a good, strong squad, and are clear favorites for this one. Arsenal's attacking force should be a threat to Olympiacos' defence. The Gunners will also have an encouraging 60000 behind them, as they are playing at the Emirates. Overall, Arsenal seems very confident ahead of the game, and should overcome Olympiacos.

Denilson Out For Two Months

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal's Brazilian midfielder, Denilson, will be out of action for two months as he has a 'small fracture in his back'. Denilson, who scored the opening goal of Arsenal's Premier League campaign this season, played his last match at the City of Manchester Stadium, will be out until the end of November.

Bendtner Injured In A Car Crash

This win takes Arsenal up to 5th in the table, behind 4 teams who have all played one match more than them. This means that a win in the next Premier League match for Arsenal will have them tied with Liverpool and Tottenham for third place with the same number of games played. Arsenalians Man of the Match: Vito Mannone
If it was not for the young, towering, Italian goalkeeper, Arsenal would have probably lost this game by a huge margin. He covered up for the faltering defence at times, and was absolutely superb against Fulham. He was called upon by Wenger as both Almunia and Fabianski were out with injuries, and did well when he had to the most. This brilliant performance should make him the second choice goalkeeper for Arsenal in place for the criticized Lukasz Fabianski.

Arsenal To Play Liverpool In Carling Cup 4th Round

Arsenal have been handed a tough draw for the 4th round of the Carling Cup, as they will welcome Rafael Benitez's Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on either 27th or 28th October. Standard Liege: The big news is that Standard Liege will miss their main man in midfield, Steven Defour, as he got a surgery done on his broken foot on Saturday. He is expected to miss 3 months of football. Meanwhile, fellow midfielder, Wilfried Dalmat will probably be out with an ankle injury he picked up on Saturday.

Arsenal: The long injury list was made longer, as Robin van Persie (kneecap), Manuel Almunia (Chest infection) and Denilson (Sore back) were added to it. Eduardo's ban was overturned on Monday, so he is eligible for tonight's game, while Tomas Rosicky is finally fit enough to play. The ruling out of Almunia means that Vito Mannone will probably be in goal for the visitors, as Lukasz Fabianski is also on the injury list. Injuries to van Persie, Walcott and Arshavin mean that Arsenal are lef with only Nicklas Bendtner and Eduardo up front, so a 4-3-3 again is unlikely.

Form:

Overview: Despite quite a few injuries, and not being in the best of form, ARsenal look much stronger than Standard Liege. The home side's midfield will be very weak, as two of their main midfielders are out injured. The Gunners look stronger in every department, and I think that Wenger would probabaly play a few youngsters, like Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs or Fran Merida. Russia 3-0 Liechtenstein:
Andrei Arshavin did not start for Russia as he was out injured, but a brace from Roman Pavlyuchenko from the spot ensured that Russia beat Liechtenstein comprehensively in St. Petersburg.

Denmark 1-1 Portugal
Nicklas Bendtner was the star for Denmark against Portugal as he grabbed the first goal for his side 3 minutes before half time. He controlled a high ball inside the penalty area, and somehow thumped the ball into the top right corner with his left foot, even though he was being marked by two defenders! However, at the end of the day it was a disappointing draw for Denmark, as Liedson of Portugal scored a late equaliser in the 86th minute. Take a look at the Dane's goal:

Update: Van Persie Impresses in Netherlands' Win

Robin van Persie played exceptionally well for the Netherlands agints Japan earlier today. Japan had held Netherlands for 69 minutes, until the Arsenal forward broke the deadlock with a close range strike. The home side scored another 2 goals through Wesley Schneider and Klaas Jan Huntelaar, the two former Real Madrid players, who departed for either Milan side this summer. The game ended 3-0 to the Dutch, but it was not that comfortable as it looks.

Eduardo's Two Match Suspension - Justified?

The big story this week has been the UEFA banning Eduardo Da Silva for diving and winning a penalty against Celtic, which he successfully converted. Is this decision right?

Why this decision was wrong:

First of all, Eduardo did not dive, take a look at the replays again, and decide for yourself. In my view, there might have been a negligible amount of contact (stop this video at 00:39 or 00:40). What it looks like, is that Eduardo did not have the ball at his feet, and was running. He was running after the ball, which was ahead of him, and he jumped, as soon as he saw Boruc charging at him, only to avoid contact. If he was trying to avoid contact, that means that he was not seeking a penalty, and thus, not diving. He prompted the referee to give a penalty, but he did not prompt the referee to give a wrong decision, as it was a penalty. Eduardo did jump on purpose, fine, but he jumped only because the keeper was charging at him when he did not have the ball, and he actually wanted to avoid contact with the keeper, thus, it was not intended to be a dive.

If you are not satisfied with that, then you could answer this question for me - "Where was the UEFA, when other players dived in the Champions League. I believe that this punishment has been given to only one player before, and you will be surprised that it was not Ronaldo. Is it possible that the UEFA has only punished two footballers for diving in a competition that is so old? In every match we probably see 3 or 4 dives. Why not the other players?" I can answer this question for you. Eduardo apparently 'dived', but the result was a penalty. In other situations, it has been a free kick.

Fine, are you still not satisfied. Okay, Eduardo 'dived', and he made the referee give a wrong decision. What was the effect of this dive? Consider that Eduardo was not awarded that penalty, what was the outcome of the match? 2-1 Arsenal, 4-1 Arsenal on aggregate. Oooohhh so much of a difference that made, Celtic fans. We regret his actions!!! There have been so many other dives, which have resulted in worse things, and yet, nothing has been done about them. Take for instance Ryan Babel against Arsenal in the Champions League, a couple of years back. Let us now compare the two dives. The Eduardo 'dive' was controversial, it resulted in a penalty, and it meant that Arsenal would win 5-1, not 4-1. The Babel dive (no inverted commas), was controversial, it resulted in a penalty, and it meant that Arsenal would be unfairly knocked out of the UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals. Had the event not taken place, the Gunners could have gone on to the semi-finals of the competition, and potentially even fursther into the finals. The two instances have a lot in common, other than the fact that the effect of the Babel dive, was much worse than Eduardo's 'dive'. Why didn't Babel get punished at all?

We can come to the conclusion, than Eduardo did not dive, but he was actually trying to avoid contact with the keeper. Even if he did dive, the punishment was too harsh. There have been many other such incidents, but no action has been taken against them. The consequence of the incident was very small, it resulted in one meaningless goal. Arsenal fans will not mind if we won 4-1 or 5-1, the fact is that we routed them.

On the 1st of September, Arsenal Football Club issued a statement on their official website, concerning the whole controversy around Eduardo's suspension due to a dive in the game against Celtic:

"The Club is disappointed with Uefa’s decision to suspend Eduardo for two Champions League matches starting with Standard Liege on September 16.

We have been informed that we will receive a “reasoned decision” from Uefa by Thursday of this week. Once we receive Uefa’s rationale, we will make a decision on the next steps.

We have been deeply frustrated by the perfunctory and apparently arbitrary process that Uefa has followed in this instance. We believe it is imperative that Uefa’s explanation for its decision provides clear and comprehensive standards that will be consistently enforced. It is also critical that Uefa provides specific details of the processes it plans to adopt in reviewing all games under its jurisdiction."

On the 3rd of September, another statement was issued concerning this controversy, saying that Arsenal Football Club would appeal against the decision:

"The Club is in receipt of Uefa’s reasoned decision in relation to the charge against Eduardo.

We strongly believe that the decision taken is deeply flawed and not based on any forensic review of the video evidence available.

There are obvious errors and inconsistencies in Uefa’s judgment and we intend to appeal."

After being a goal up thanks to Andrei Arshavin at halftime, the Gunners gave away the match to Manchester United. A penalty and an own goal, by a person who was considered a 'hero' by Arsenal fans until last week, resulted in Arsenal's first defeat of the season. The rest is too painful to write, as we were the better side, and we gave away the chance of maybe, just maybe, becoming champions this year. The worst part is that the mood is now down, with Wenger discussing about how his kick at the bottle on the touchline during the press conference. Arshavin was denied a penalty, and the first time in a long (long, long, long) time (maybe never, I can't remember any other time this happened), Sir Alex Ferguson admitted that his opponents were denied a penalty.

The old rivals face off in the first 'Big 4' match of the season, which is sure to be a good match with goals. It is still early in the season, and the two would be looking to win this clash, as often, the start of the season, decides which team is a title contender, and which team would be struggling at the bottom. These two teams have no intentions of struggling at the bottom.

What: Barclays Premier League, Round 4 for Manchester United, Round 3 for Arsenal.

Team News:

Manchester United: United's defence will be weakened by injuries, as first choice goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar will be replaced by Ben Foster. Ahead of Foster, Rio Ferdinand will be absent for about another month, while his replacement Jonny Evans will play, despite needing an injury for his injured ankle. If Evans is unable to play, Wes Brown or John O'Shea should step in for him. Meanwhile, Nemanja Vidic and Gary Neville are fit again, but Owen Hargreaves, Rafael and Gabriel Obertan are long term absentees. Up ahead, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney are all available.

Arsenal: Arsenal's midfield will not be at its best, as captain Cesc Fabregas will not play due to a hamstring injury. Aaron Ramsey also looks doubtful after picking up an injury against Celtic on Wednesday. Theo Walcott has neared full fitness after his long term injury, and is doubtful for today's game. Tomas Rosicky has also almost recovered from his injury, but will not take part today. Samir Nasri is still out with a broken leg, and Johan Djourou is ruled out.

Overview:

My prediction will be based on 5 things, Form, Capability of Scoring Goals, Capbility of Defending Goals, Home Advantage and my gut feeling:

Form: This part of the prediction easily goes to Arsenal, winning 4 out of 4 games this season, scoring 15 goals. Manchester United on the other hand have looked shaky recently, losing to Burnley at Turf Moor. Even if United had won that match, they could not have bettered Arsenal's goalscoring form.

Capability of Scoring Goals: At this stage, we will have to agree that Arsenal have looked more dangerous in attack than United. Arsenal slammed 6 past Everton, 4 against Pompey, and 5 against Celtic over two matches. United meanwhile struggle to score that one goal against Birmingham City, failed to score at Burnley, but scored 5against Wigan. Arsenal have clearly been consistent in scoring goals, which is mainly because of their new 4-3-3 formation. This formation allows the 3 midfielders to join in the attack, and provide through balls, while the strikers on the wings give in crosses into the 'D'. A stat that proves this, is that only 2 of Arsenal's 15 goals so far have been scored by a striker (Eduardo). A majority of the goals have come from the midfield.

Capability of Defending Goals: On any other day, we would have written of Arsenal for this part of the prediciton, but today, it will be close. Arsenal have a full strength defence, with William Gallas and Thomas Vermaelen, who have proved to everyone what they are capable of. In 4 matches, they have conceded 3 goals, against teams of high quality. Looking at Manchester United's defence, they will be missing their key man, Rio Ferdinand, which will surely weaken the defence. They have conceded 1 goal in 3 matches, but the sides they played were not too impressive, namely Wigan, Burnley and Wigan. These factors balance out this category, and make t tough to decide. Thus, I will divide it between the two teams.

Home Advantage: This match will be played at Old Trafford, which would give the United fans something to cheer about. Arsenal have played two matches away from home this season, and have won both in a convincing manner, but in the recent years, Arsenal have not been very successful at Old Trafford. They managed a draw a few months back, and in 2006, they got all three points courtsey of Emmanuel Adebayor's late contreversial goal.

Gut Feeling: Recent form shows that Arsenal have been a side who has scored goals comfortably without any problems. Manchester United just don't look that strong at the moment for some reason, and I have that feeling that Arsenal has an edge going into this game. It looks like it is going to be very close, but something tells me that Arsenal is going to win an immensely close match.

Arsenal 3-1 Celtic (Agg 5-1)

Arsenal cruised to a 3-1 win over visitors Celtic, in the Champions League Playoff Round Second Leg, to qualify for the UEFA Champions League Group Stage. The Gunners visited Celtic Park last week, and came out as 2-0 winners, and carried that advantage into yesterday's match.

Arsenal played a 4-3-3 formation, with unusual players, in unusual positions. The defence had Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna, William Gallas, and Thomas Vermaelen. The midfielders on the wings were Eboue and Denilson, while Alexandre Song was in between them. Up ahead, Abou Diaby and Nicklas Bandtner were on either side of Croatian striker Eduardo.

Celtic started strongly, looking to cut down the 2-0 deficit but were unable to do so. In the 28th minute, Eduardo was put through one on one with Celtic's goalie, and even as an Arsenal supporter, I'll have to say that he dived. He took the penalty, and coolly place it on the right hand side, as the keeper went the other way. The Gunners were the more dominant force in the first half, and deserved that one goal. After the break, a wonderful break by the home side led to a goal by midfielder Emmanuel Eboue. Andrei Arshavin came on for Arsenal, and showed just what he could do. In the 74th minute, he recieved the ball just inside the 'D', turn around the defender, and struck the ball low into the bottom left corner, out of the keeper's reach. Celtic managed a late consolation goal by Massimo Donati, as a long cross to the far post was volleyed into the opposite corner, 2 minutes into stoppage time. The final scoreline was 3-1 to the Gunners, and 5-1 on aggregate, as they cruised into the Group Stages of the Champions League. Here are the highlights of the match at the Emirates Stadium:

These are two big European clubs, fighting for a place in the Champions League Group Stage. Both of them deserve to go through, but the new UEFA Qualifying structure does not allow this to happen. So it comes down to the question, 'Which one out of these two clubs deserves to go through more than the other?' England's fourth best Vs Scotland second best, with the English holding a 2-0 advantage. This is 'The Battle of Britain'.

Arsenal: Other than the absence of Cesc Fabregas, the Gunners will probably name the squad that played against Portsmouth on Saturday. 3 matches, 12 goals, 2 conceded, 11 goals from non-strikers, one from a striker, 6 goals from midfielders, 5 goals from defenders (including one own goal from the opponent). I dont think Arsenal will need Robin Van Persie, Eduardo, Bendtner, Vela, or any other strikers. Only one of them scored one rather meaningless goal, and still, Arsenal are on top of the table of the Premier League, scoring 10 goals in 2 matches, and are in a strong position to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League. We couldn't have asked for a better start!

After crushing Everton on the opening day of the season, and beating Scottish giants Celtic in Scotland, the Gunners continued their maginificent goalscoring form, as they scored 4 against a struggling Portsmouth. It was Abou Diaby's 100th game for Arsenal, and it was his day, as he pumped in 2 excellent goals in the space on 4 minutes early on, to give his team a solid start. The Gunners dominated the game in front of 60,049 at the Emirates, but cheaply conceded a goal in the 37th minute. After a clearance had been made by the home side's defence, the alertness of the players fell, as the ball came to a Pompey player. He gave a good cross into the box, and Kaboul was their to rise and head it into the net, with no defenders challenging him. This goal was completely unexpected, and the mood became dull in North London. It definitely broke the goalscoring momentum Arsenal had, if nothing more than that.

After half time, Portsmouth looked strong, as former Arsenal striker Kanu, just missed the goal by inches. William Gallas, who had scored for Arsenal aginst Everton and Celtic, made it 3 out of 3 in the 51st minute, with another lucky goal. Arsenal were still not done, youngster Aaron Ramsey added the 4th to round off a wonderful day for the Gunners, in the 69th minute. Meanwhile, Manchester United hammered a clueless Wigan 5-0 at the JJB Stadium, to comeback from their 1-0 loss to Burnley in midweek.

It has been a wonderful start to the season for football fans in North London, as at ths point, Arsenal and Tottenham are separated on top of the table by goal difference, and are looking very strong indeed. Here are the highlights from the first macth of the season at the Emirates Stadium:

The first month or so of the season shapes up the rest of the season, and decides, who will be battling for relegation, and who will be up for the title. Celtic 0-2 Arsenal Highlights

The first part of the Battle of Britain saw the English attack the Scottish territory successfully, and now they will retreat back to London, to face them in part 2, to see who will conquer Britain.

Arsenal dominated possession in the first half, and were hovering about the Celtic's box all the time. They were rewarded for their dominance, as captain Cesc Fabregas launched a shot from a free kick, and it took a lucky deflection off former captain, William Gallas.

The start of the second half was not too good for the visitors at Celtic Park. The second half saw the home side give their supporters some hope, as possession was theirs. However, they could not make good use of it, as Arsenal grabbed another goal late on. This time, Gael Clichy led an attack from the left, and delivered a good ground cross in the box. Celtic's captain, Gary Caldwell tried to hit it out of play, but managed to put it past his own keeper.

The match finished 2-0 to the Gunners who will now defend that lead for a place in this year's UEFA Champions League, at the Emirates Stadium, in a week's time.

Both the clubs, Arsenal specially, have been regular participants in the past few years, so it would be a shame if any of them don't qualify, but that is the way the draw is.

Celtic: Glen Loovens and Shaun Maloney are both doubtful, after picking up injuries over the weekend. Gary Caldwell will return to the Scottish side's defence, after being suspended.

Overview: The Battle of Britain should be an exciting match to watch. Both teams are evenly matched on paper, and are excellent in all departments. I feel that both these teams really deserve to be in the Group Stages of the Champions League, as they have been in the past years. Today, Arsenal should go all out in attack, to try and get a crucial away goal. Looking at the form of the two teams, I think Arsenal should get more than a goal, as they are in formidable form, while Celtic have lost to teams like Manchester City, Sunderland, and Dinamo Moscow recently. This should give the visiting side an advantage, who are in tremendous goalscoring form, having netted 6 goals against a team who finished one place below them last season, that too away from home. Overall, form should be the key factor to this game, and that should give the Gunners a slight edge over their opponents.

Everton 1-6 Arsenal

We just could not have asked for a better start to the new season of the Barclays Premier League. We play a team who finished just one place below us last season, and hammer them by scoring 6 goals, that too, not at the Emirates, but at Goodison Park.

We absolutely crushed, hammered, squashed, overpowered our wonderful opponents, Everton. Denilson opened the scoring with a long range screamer, in the 26th minute. Our only summer signing, Thomas Vermaelen, nodded home from a set piece, in the 37th minute to make it 2 for the Gunners. Next it was former captain William Gallas' turn, as another indirect free kick, was headed home coolly by him in the 41st minute. The visitors dominated the game in the first half, scoring 3, and conceding none.

The half time break didn't seem to break the goalscoring momentum, as Cesc Fabregas scored finished a wonderful counter attack, in the 48th minute. It was a while till the next goal, 22 minutes to be precise, as Fabregas carried the ball almost from the half line, and shot from outside the 'D', and the ball rolled in the bottom left corner. Yes, it would remind you of Milan Vs Arsenal at the San Siro in the Champions League knockout phases of 2007-08. Similar finish there. The Spaniard celebrated his team's fifth goal by holding up an Arsenal jersey with the name Jarque and the number 21 printed at the back. If you are not aware, this was a sort of tribute to Daniel Jarque, the captain of RCD Espanyol in Spain, who recently died of a heart failure during his team's tour of Italy. 21 was the number he had worn for the past 5 years, and he was Fabregas' teammate in the Spain Under 21 squad.
All was not over yet, Arsene Wenger at this point brought on substitutes, one of which was Eduardo. In the 89th minute, after a move inside Everton's box, Arshavin managed to get a shot, but it only deflected of the right post. Eduardo was there at the right time, and was rewarded with an open goal to thump the ball into. Louis Saha, a substitute for Everton squeezed a consolation goal in the end, but it was nothing more that that. The game ended 6-1 to the Arsenal.

The key to a good season is always a good start. A good start is an advantage you gain early on, from which you benefit later on. Both teams are title contenders, or at least worthy of a finish inside the Top 5, so both will be looking to start the season on a high note.

Arsenal FC:
2008-09: 4th

Last season was a fourth consecutive season that Arsenal did not lift up a trophy, and the pressure has now built up on Arsene Wenger and his squad. The summer seems to have weakened the squad but The Professor does not think so. The departures of Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure to Manchester City might hurt the young Arsenal this season, but only time can tell. Thomas Vermaelen was brought in from Ajax to strenghten the defence, but will it be enough?

These players would surely cover up for the departure of Gareth Barry to the Middle Eastlands, but it might not be enough to break into the Top 4.

Birmingham City (Promoted)
2008-09: 2nd in the Championship

Even though they got promoted, Birmingham's last season was a bit disappointing from the fans point of view. Low attendances, and no liking for the manager Alex Mcleish, might be signs of things to come. It is definitely not the same Birmingham who we saw two years back in the Premier League. Even taking into account the signing of new players such as Barry Ferguson, Cristian Benitez and Joe Hart, it looks like the club will have a tough time surviving in the Premier League this season.

Last year, everyone could see, Blsckburn's downfall began. Paul Ince was appointed manager and sacked in less time than you could blink your eye in. Not many things have changed in the summer for the club, other than the departures of Roque Santa Cruz and Aaron Mokoena, and the retirement of Tugay, and it doesnt look like the signings of Gael Givet and Franco Di Santo can cover up for these players.

Gary Megson may not be the fans favorite manager, but he sure has done his job. He steered them away from relegation the season before last, and earned a respectable 13th place finish last season. This time, with the signings of Paul Robinson, Zat Knight, Sean Davis, and Sam Ricketts and no major departures they look stronger and set for a finish in the Top 10. Gary Megson should just keep up the job, and not try anything risky to achieve that type of a finish.

Just so you know, Burney is the least populous town, and still managed to beat the likes of Sheffield United in the Playoff final aginst all odds. It was one of those dream runs a club often has, but now is the real test. A place in the Premier League was what they were fighting for, and now it is going to be tough for them, as they have not strenghtened their squad much during the summer. By the way, dont expect a wonderful start from this club, as they face 4 of last season's Top 5 in their first month itself.

Under a new manager, with new players, Chelsea look perfect this time. With the signing of Yuri Zhirkov andthe coming of the new manager Calo ancelloti, Chelsea look unbeatable this season, and I wouldnt be surprised if they lifted the Premier League trophy this season.

Everton showed everyone last season what they could do when they really wanted to. They finished 5th, and earned respectable results against the Top 4. They have a confident manager, David Moyes, but is he overconfident? The Toffees sure do have a good squad, with the likes of Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill, Tim Howard, Jo, Yakubu, and one man who has been heavily linked with top clubs this summer , Joleon Lescott. They might not have been active in the transfer market, but really, they didn't need any changes. Their side is fit enough to remain in the Top 7.

Brede Hangeland was linked with top clubs like Arsenal, and Clint Dempsey was one of the key figures in the USA's success at the Confederation's Cup this summer, which might be signs of things to come.

Champions League Play Off Round Draw

Arsenal and Celtic have been paired up together in the Champions League Play Off Round, and will fight over two legs to see who makes it to the group stage of the competition.

In the new system of qualifictaion for the Champions League, there is a Best Placed Path and a Champions Path. Five champions from various associations will make it to the group stage of the Champions League. Meanwhile, the teams in Europe who have not won their respective leagues are in one part of the draw. Champions and Non-Champions cannot clash in the Qualification Stage. At this point, there are 10 teams in both of the paths. 5 teams from each path will make it to the Champions League proper.

Arsenal and Celtic will clash in Scotland on 18/19 August, while the second leg in London will be on 25/26 August.

The New Season has Arrived!

Sorry everyone, I have not posted since March, where we were talking about Aston Villa beating Arsenal to the Champions League spot. Today, here we are, discussing the forthcoming season, and our opponents in the playoff round in the Champions League - Celtic FC.

So after March, Arsenal stepped up, Arshavin was in great form, Fabregas returned from injury, and Arsenal went through the rest of the Premier League season without any trouble. The only loss was at the Emirates against Chelsea where we were hammered convincingly, 4-1.

Aston Villa, who caused tension among the Arsenal fans slipped, and just couldn't get anything right in the final third of the season, and probably the most crucial third. In fact, Villa, who were expecting to come third in January, even ahead of Chelsea, ended up in sixth position. They took the Europa League spots along with Everton and Fulham.

Let us go ahead in the table, and see how Manchester United clinched the title once again. Just like Aston Villa, Liverpool remained major contenders for the title until February, but a poor run at the end meant that they would finish second. Chelsea were looking strong, but could only manage a third place finish.

May is the month where most competitions come to an end. The FA Cup was awarded to Chelsea this year, after they beat Everton 2-1 at Wembley. Arsenal and Manchester United were knocked out of the competition by Chelsea and Everton respectively in the semi finals.

Also in May there was a match which many considered to be the match of the season, and the match that would decide who is the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, or Cristiano Ronaldo. The Champions League Final in Rome turned out to be rather disappointing, as it was a completely one sided affair. Barcelona eased past Manchester United, with 2 goals from Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi. It certainly proved that Messi was better than Ronaldo.

That was it for 2008-09. A rather good season for Arsenal FC, with a fourth place finish in the Premier League, and semi final exits in the Champions League and the FA Cup.

Then came the summer. For Arsenal, there were transfers, but not as big as others around the world. Real Madrid ran riot in the transfer market, as they picked up Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Xabi Alonso, and more, even though they were in debt.

For Arsenal it was an active summer. Emmanuel Adebayor left for Manchester City, along with Kolo Toure. Thomas Vermaelen was bought from Ajax. There was speculation throughout the summer that Emmanuel Eboue would leave for Fiorentina, which eventually he didn't. As I write, Everton and Arsenal are in talks for Phillipe Senderos, who spent last season on loan to AC Milan away from the Emirates.

After the summer there have been some returns for Arsenal players, and some have made it to the first team from the Fa Cup winning youth team. Sanchez Watt, Fran Merida, Jack Wilshere are players who have played for the first team during pre season. The returns were those of Eduardo and Rosicky. However, long term injuries seem to be attracted to Tomas Rosicky, as he has again picked up an injury which will keep him out for 6 weeks. Meanwhile, Samir Nasri picked up an injury at the pre season training camp, and he will be out for some time too.

Then came pre season, and Arsenal started it with a 2-2 draw with Barnet. Then they went on "A Mini European Tour", playing and beating SC Columbia, Szombatheyli Haladas and Hannover 96. Emirates Stadium saw the first of Arsenal this season at the Emirates Cup, featuring hosts Arsenal, Paris St.Germain, Rangers and Atletico Madrid. Arsenal beat Atletico in a nail biting encounter, as Arshavin scored two amazing late goals, and yet he was not the man of the match as the award is announced at 85 minutes, before the real action. The award was given to Jack Wilshere, and so was it the next day, as Arsenal crushed Scottish champions Rangers 3-0, with 2 goals from the youngster. Arsenal might have won the tournament by a mile, but definitely the spotlight was on Wilshere after the tournament.

So that is it for now, that is what has happened since March. There is a lot to look forward to , as the new season starts on the 15th of August, when The Arsenal travels to Goodison Park to kick off (hopefully) their most successful campaign ever. There is a last pre season game still left, and that is Valencia vs Arsenal. Race for Europe - An Analysis

Throughout the second half of the season, everybody has been questioning the status of Arsenal next year in Europe. Before the start of each season, the contenders are the 'Big 4', Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool. However, this season has been different. Arsenal have been pushed out of this little league on top of the table and was replaced by Aston Villa.

As the end of the season comes nearer, people are worried whether Arsenal will make it to next years Champions League or not. At one time, Aston Villa had dethroned Chelsea from their 3rd place, and they held ahuge 9 point lead over Arsenal at the moment. Arsenal however have gone on a 17 match unbeaten run, and caught up during the last few weeks, as Aston Villa stumbled. First the Villans lost to Chelsea, who are battling with Liverpool for 3rd place currently. Then came a draw against a determined Stoke City, who caught up from being 2-0 down. To further hammer the European dreams of Aston Villa, came a midweek loss to Manchester City. Arsenal took full advantage of this, and has closened the gap to 3 points, with 10 games remaining.

Note: You might think that I am putting Arsenal wins everywhere, but that is what I think they will get. I have taken into account form and injuries. Arsenal are in wonderful form while Aston Villa have struggled the last 3 weeks. Plus, Eduardo, Adebayor, Rosicky, Walcott and Fabregas all returning will give a huge boost to Arsenal. If Chelsea were beaten by Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, obviously my prediction would go for Arsenal at the Emirates. 2-2 was the result when Liverpool visited Arsenal, so I have gone for a draw. Man Utd were beaten at the Emirates, but I think they are too tough to be beaten at Old Trafford.

Roma - Arsenal Highlights

What a match! Arsenal win the 1st leg 1-0 at home, the 2nd leg is won by AS Roma in Rome, 1-0, to set up penalties at the Stadio Olimpico. Eduardo misses the first, and the pressure is on Almunia, who eventually saves a sloppy shot from Vucinic which came straight at him. 4-4 at the end of the 5 penalties. Sudden death was to decide whether the Italian outfit will go through, or the young pressurized Gunners. It was intense at Rome. 5-5, 6-6, 7-7... no wait stop! It was 7-6 to Arsenal, who took advantage of Tonetto's shot, which flew over the goal. The young squad were through to the quarter finals of the Champions League!

The Champions League encounter between Arsenal and AS Roma at the Emirates Stadium witnessed a lone Robin Van Persie penalty give an advantage to the Gunners in the 1st Leg of the Round of 16.

Arsenal dominated most of the game, however they failed to convert some good chances. But whatever, a win is a win, no matter how you get it. The fact is that they won.

The Gunners will travel to Rome next month for the 2nd Leg, carrying a slight advantage. The penalty was earned and scored by Van Persie, who sent Roma keeper Doni the wrong way. Arsenal have been struggling with major injuries, but inspite of that, they beat the Italian giants.

Arsenal 4-0 Cardiff - The Croat's Comeback

The FA Cup Fourth Round Replay at the Emirates Stadium probably, rather hopefully marks the starting of a new Arsenal. Eduardo Da Silva marked his comeback to the First Team by scoring a brace for the Gunners against a helpless Cardiff.

Even though people would be looking at this match as a thumping win in the FA Cup, it will be remembered more for the comeback of striker Eduardo, 358 days after he broke his leg at St Andrews stadium against Birmingham.

Following a 0-0 encounter at Ninian Park about 3 weeks back, this replay was supposed to be a close one. There was nothing of that sort however, as goals from Van Persie, Bendtner and a brace from Eduardo sealed a comfortable win over the Bluebirds of Cardiff.

Eduardo got the scoring going by placing a wonderful header in the corner. Nicklas Bendtner showed just the uses of being a tall man after heading a powerful header from a Nasri corner. He lost his marker with ease and rose to the ball to complete a perfect goal just before half time.

The second half was no different as Arsenal continued to control the game with a host of chances coming in. Eduardo won a penalty at the hour mark and converted it beautifully, to make it 3-0. Robin Van Perfect came on as a substitute for the Croatian. He recieved a standing ovation from the Emiarates Satdium crowd, which completed a perfect day for him. The man who replaced him, Robin Van 'Perfect', scored one in the 89th minute to complete the thrahing

Tottenham 0-0 Arsenal Highlights

After all those predictions of a thrilling encounter full of entertaining goals, it all ended in a 0-0 draw. However it was quite entertaining, a host of chances missed by both teams. It was a nightmare for Arsenal, even though the team and the management looked happy with the result at White Hart Lane. Adebayor out for 3 weeks, Eboue red-carded, Arshavin not making his debut, Mr Robin Van Perfect starting on the bench, some unfair decisions and blood springing out of Clichy's head as though it was a volcano.

Lets sum up the match for Arsenal in a mathematical way:
Arsenal- Eboue - Adebayor - Arshavin + Unfair Referee + The Horrible Spurs' Crowd = No Goals

Arsenal remain on fifth while Chelsea lose their 3rd place to Aston Villa after a draw against Hull. This also ended the 7 month reign of Luiz Felipe Scolari at Stamford Bridge, however I see no reason why they sacked him. As for Arsenal, they are getting incessant draws, which clearly lessens the chances of Arsenal finishing in 5th but strengthens the chances of losing their place to 6th place Everton.

We can just hope and pray, that we finish in the top 8 this season.

The much awaited North London Derby will take place on Sunday, in which Tottenham have a horrible record, as they were last victorious way back in 1999.

David Bentley will miss due to suspension while O'Hara, Hutton and King are injured. Carlos Cudicini will be in the goal and Pascal Chimbonda returns to his former club.

Arsenal: Fans will be eager to see Russian striker Andrei Arshavin make his debut for the Gunners. Diaby is out with suspension and Eboue has recovered from his injury. If Arsenal avoid defeat at White Hart Lane today, they will have a 19 match unbeaten run against Tottenham in the Premier League, equaling previous records. Tottenham have won only once in the 26 North London Derbys. They squeezed in 2 extra time goals at the Emirates in October to end a fabulous 4-4 draw . This fixture has produced 14 goals in the last 3, at an average of almost 5 a game. This time should be no different. North London rivals, crucial part of the season, but the history is in favor of only one team. An ultimate match. But remember the history or rather form should not matter much, since this match is the first after the transfer window, and so the team will be different. That applies more for Tottenham, since they have spent the most in January and their team has completely different look. Arshavin could turn out to be Arsenal's savior this season (at least that is what we are hoping for), so all Arsenal eyes will be on the #23. This has been my longest overview and no surprises. This will be an action packed, amazing, tight, exciting, close and entertaining match. This is one you simply cannot miss!

Predictions:
The general prediction is a draw with goals. Arsenal looking strong on paper, yet their rivals have somehow snatched draws almost every time. But the Arshavin factor will certainly affect my prediction. 2-1 for Arsenal.

News has just come in that Zenit's spokesman Alexei Petrov has told Sky Sports that Andrei Arshavin will be a Gunner from Tuesday following a tense negotiations for more than a month.

He also said that Arsenal had paid much more than what they had hoped they would have to pay for Arshavin. The Premier League confirmed that they had recieved all the Arshavin papers including the fee, personal terms and a medical before the deadline. Until the Premier League looks through them, Arsenalians will have to wait.

Arshavin Finally Joins Arsenal!

Yes! It is true! Andrei Arshavin has joint Arsenal Football Club.
However the Russian's move is not official yet, as the Premier League has to sign the papers, which should be completed by tomorrow.

A 2.5 year deal has been signed, which means that Arshavin will be at the Emirates until 2012. The striker was reportedly signed for about 12 million euros from Zenit St. Petersburg after the discussion going on for more than a month. Sky Sports News reports say that Arshavin will wear the No.13 shirt, recently worn by Aliaksandr Hleb. Contradicting reports say that he will be presented the No. 23 shirt.

A controversy still remains though. Zenit have asked Arshavin to pay a percentage of the signing fee to them.

He should be replacing Cesc Fabregas who is injured for the moment in central midfield. He is traditionally a striker, so he should be playing up front with Van Persie and Adebayor, once the midfield is strongly secured by the services of Tomas Rosicky, Cesc Fabregas and the young Theo Walcott.

The new signing comes in the form of light in Arsenal's future, and especially now, as the Gunners are struggling to beat Aston Villa to the race for fourth spot.

Arsenal 0-0 West Ham United Highlights

A chance wasted...

Aston Villa struggled at home against Wigan, giving Arsenal a chance to close in on them. However, this chance was not taken by the Gunners, after they failed to score
against West Ham United, thus resulting in a goalless draw.

It was not a dull, boring match at all, in fact the second half was one of the most entertaining ones even though it did not produce any goals. 15 shots were taken by Arsenal through the match while West Ham took just 2. Possession was also with the home side (57%), but still they could not break the deadlock.

Fabulous chances were wasted by the strikers, especially Adebayor. Arsene Wenger surprised everyone, by keeping the in form Van Persie on the bench. This time around, he didn't work his magic on the Hammers.

It was entertaining, yet frustrating. 13 corners won by Arsenal, in contrast to West Ham's 3. Only 8 of the 15 shots taken were on goal. This could be a signal of lack of clinical finishes, and Arshavin would be perfect for that. Along with some experience and skill, he would bring some light to Arsenal's future.

Arsenal still lie in fifth, five points behind the final Champions League spot.

West Ham: Dyer will miss out on a trip to North London after he broke his leg. Dean Ashton and Danny Gabbidon are long term absetees. New signing Navio Nsereko will probably start.

Arshavin On His Way To London!

Recent reports say that Andrei Arshavin is on a flight to London from Dubai, which will land at 2:00 Local Time. The Russian striker has been linked to Arsenal the whole month, and if these rumours are true, he would possibly be joining the Gunners today, the last day of the transfer window.

Reports say that Arshavin has not played the last 2 matches for Zenit. These matches were pre-season friendlies in the Middle East, that is how arshavin was in Dubai.

He checked out of the hotel at 6:30 in the morning and boarded a flight bound to the home of Arsenal. He has apparently paid 2.5 million euros to Zenit, and hopefully will be leaving them today.

Hopefully, Arshavin will be seen making his way for a medical test, and then to Ashburton Grove for the signing?

Rumours have spread saying that when a photographer asked Zenit coach Dick Advocaat if he could take a photo of Arshavin training in Dubai, he said that he was no longer his player and he didn't care about him.

If the signing goes through, Arshavin will be holding a shirt No. 23 before today's match against West Ham United.

Another clue, which makes us feel that Arshavin will join Arsenal is that earlier in the week, Arsene Wenger praised Arshavin saying he is experienced.

Everton Vs Arsenal Highlights

Van Persie......yet again.
Just as Arsenal were being swallowed in Everton's mouth, Robin Van Persie's thunderous strike salvaged an important point for the Gunners.

He can be called a God, afterall he has either assisted or scored all the Arsenal goals this month - 8 of them.

Tim Cahill powered in a header for Everton at Goodison Park after 61 minutes. Van Persie and Denilson had wasted golden oppurtunities in the first half, and that was their punishment.

The Gunners' 8 game unbeaten streak looked under danger until Robin Van Persie finally found the net with 70 seconds of injury time left. Abou Diaby found the Dutchman on the left side, and the rest was Van Persie's job. With a beautiful first touch, he came into position for a blasting strike.

Arsenal now find themselves 5 points behind Aston Villa, 6 behind Liverpool and Chelsea, and 8 behind the defending champions Manchester United.

Cardiff City: Whittingham is uncertain, while reserves Tony Capaldi, Eddie Johnson, Stephen McPhail and Ricardo Scimeca are likely to be included in the squad.

Arsenal: Arsene Wenger will be playing 8 or 9 first team players, along with 'Cup Keeper' Lukasz Fabianski and 1 or 2 reserves. Gael Clichy's suspension might give Kieran Gibbs a start. The Title Is Still Within Reach

Emmanuel Adebayor feels that Arsenal are strong contenders for the title this season, after being ruled out completely at Christmas.

Since then the Gunners have had impressive form, winning all their matches. Arsenal are now only six points behind the leaders Manchester United, and I see no reason why Arsenal cannot win the title from here.

Lets take a look at the maths now:

Manchester United are on 47 points with a game in hand, let us assume they win that, so they are on 50 points. Liverpool are on 47. Chelsea are close behind on 45. Aston Villa is sticking to them at 44, while Arsenal, in 5th place, are chasing the pack with 41.

All Arsenal need to do is win, and ultimately, one of these teams will slip. Aston Villa scored late last weekend, to secure a win. Chelsea made an incredible comeback, scoring two goal in the last to minutes to snatch a win from Stoke City. Manchester United scored a stoppage time winner against Bolton, while Liverpool drew in the Merseyside derby against Everton.

If 15 minutes were taken away from the Aston Villa, Manchester United and Chelsea matches, the table would have looked like this.

Hull City 1-3 Arsenal Highlights

Another win. It has been four in a row and the old Arsenal seems to be coming back. Goals from Adebayor, Nasri and Bendtner assured a 3-1 win against the Tigers at KC Stadium.

Arsenal dominated most of the match, they got good possession, and many chances, and it paid off in the end.

After Van Persie's most accurate free kick of the season (hit the bar), Adebayor converted a wonderful corner into goal at the half hour mark.

However, Daniel Cousin came to haunt Arsenal yet again, after he headed in a deflected cross from close range.

The Gunners popped in another late goal to lead the game at 82 minutes through Samir Nasri, who put the ball in the bottom right corner from the left after recieving a through ball from Van Persie.

The win was sealed a fter Nicklas Bendtner volleyed one in from close range. He was unmarked in the box, and that was Hull's punishment.

Who: Hull City (8th) Vs Arsenal (5th)
Hull City have slipped ever since they beat arsenal at the Emirates in September. Phil Brown's men have terrible form at the moment and lie in eighth place. A defeat to the Gunners today could see the Tigers slipping 2 places to tenth. Arsenal on the other hand are at fifth, 3 points behind Aston Villa, and 3 points in front of Everton. To keep up the pressure on Villa, Arsenal have to win their third consecutive fixture. At the same time, they will have to remember that Hull beat them just 4 months ago.

What: Barclays Premier League, Round 22 for both teams.

Where: KC Stadium, East Yorkshire.
Hull would like to take advantage of the fact they are playing at home.

Hull City: Winger Kevin Kilbane will make his debut for the Tigers after completing his move from Wigan this week. George Boateng will miss the game and will be joined by defender Kamil Zayatte. Dawson and Gardner return to the squad.

Arsenal: Gallas, Silvestre, Fabregas, Rosicky and Walcott are long term injuries. Eduardo, who broke his foot last February has taken one more step to recovery, after scoring a hat trick for the reserves in mid week, but he will not be included in the squad. Song will return to the squad.

Arshavin Deal To Be Sealed On Tuesday?

Russian star Andrei Arshavin's move to Arsenal has appeared to move a step closer, after reports suggest that Zenit has invited Arsenal's officials to Russia to discuss the move.

The clubs have been in talk for over 2 weeks now, and Arsenal reportedly had a £10 million bid rejected. Arsenal have now bid £12 million for the striker and the deal should fall through by next week.

“Zenit have invited Arsenal officials to St Petersburg next Tuesday," Alexei Petrov, a Zenit spokesman, told The Guardian, “This is to show that Zenit do want to find an option which will be acceptable for everyone.”

Lets hope that Arshavin joins the Gunners and has an impact on the form.
